Dark Night of the Soul & Ascent of Mount Carmel
St. John of the Cross. The Mystical Doctor on purification and union with God.
- Best overall: Kavanaugh & Rodriguez, The Collected Works (ICS Publications)
- Classic: E. Allison Peers, Dark Night of the Soul (Image / Doubleday)
- Budget: Dover Thrift Editions (Dover)
Also good: Read the poems first; Fr. Iain Matthew’s The Impact of God is a wonderful introduction.
